Sly Carrot is a fast, face-to-face party game you play with the person right next to you. We built it to get you off your screen — so we keep the data we collect minimal and in service of the game. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
Account & Identity
You can start playing immediately with an anonymous profile — no sign-up required. If you choose to make your profile durable, you can sign in with Apple, which gives us a stable identifier and, if you allow it, your name and a relay email address. We use this only to keep your stats and game history tied to you across devices and sessions.
Gameplay Data
When you play a round, we record the result so we can show your stats and history. For each game this includes the players involved, the display names shown, each player's role, who won, the round's outcome, and a timestamp. This is what powers your lifetime Games Won, Games Played, Win %, and your scrollable game history.
Nearby Pairing
Sly Carrot pairs two phones that are physically next to each other using Apple's local device-to-device connectivity. This connection happens directly between the two devices to exchange game state during a round. It is not used to track your location and is not transmitted to us as a record of who is near you.
Coarse Location
With your permission, we may record a coarse (approximate, city-level) location for a game. We use this to enrich your game history and to support future features like finding nearby players. We do not collect precise GPS coordinates. You can decline this in the app or in your device's location settings at any time.
Device & Usage Information
We collect limited technical data such as your device model, operating system version, and app version, along with anonymized usage patterns (for example, how often games are started and completed), to fix bugs, improve performance, and design better features.
2. How We Use Your Data
- To run the core game — pairing, scoring, and revealing the winner.
- To show your personal stats and game history across your devices.
- To understand general usage patterns and improve app performance and design.
- To send occasional, important account or service notices.
3. Third-Party Services
Sly Carrot uses Google Firebase to run the service. Specifically:
- Authentication — to create your anonymous profile and, optionally, link Sign in with Apple.
- Cloud database & sync — to securely store your game records and stats and sync them across your devices.
- Analytics — to understand general, aggregated app usage. Data is anonymized or pseudonymized wherever possible.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. We do not use iCloud or CloudKit.
4. Data Sync, Storage & Retention
Your profile and game history are stored securely in the cloud so they sync across your devices and survive a reinstall. We keep this data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time, either in the app or by emailing us; when you do, all associated personal data is permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.
5. Your Rights & Choices
- Access or export your data.
- Correct or update your profile information.
- Delete your account and all stored data.
- Opt out of location collection or analytics.

6. Children's Privacy
Sly Carrot is rated for a general audience and is family-friendly. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@slycarrot.com and we will delete it.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll notify you through the app. Your continued use of Sly Carrot after an update means you agree to the revised policy.
